Aesthetic Medicine: How PRP Can Transform Your Skin and Hair Naturally

As a dual board-certified family and sports medicine physician, much of my work focuses on helping patients heal naturally and restore function when surgery is not indicated. We’ve safely used platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in orthopedics and sports medicine to promote tissue repair and recovery for years. Our practice is now excited to extend this same regenerative science into Aesthetic Medicine wherein we now offer PRP at our Glen Mills office location for both Facial Rejuvenation and Scalp Restoration.

What Is PRP?

PRP is a concentration of platelets derived from your own blood, rich in growth factors that support healing and tissue regeneration. After a small blood draw, your sample is processed in a centrifuge to isolate these platelets, which help stimulate collagen production, improve blood flow, and promote cellular repair. While PRP has long been used safely in orthopedics and sports medicine to accelerate healing, we are now bringing the same science to aesthetic treatments for the face and scalp.

PRP Facial Rejuvenation

PRP Facial Rejuvenation involves injecting platelet-rich plasma into targeted areas of the face. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, PRP helps improve:

  • Skin tone and texture

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne scars and hyperpigmentation

  • Skin elasticity and firmness

Best candidates:
Men and women seeking natural skin rejuvenation, especially those noticing early signs of aging, acne scarring, or dull skin tone. This treatment is ideal for patients who prefer a biologic approach rather than synthetic fillers.

Treatment plan:
While some patients notice improvement after one session, a series of three treatments spaced about 4–6 weeks apart typically provides optimal results. Improvements continue gradually over several months as collagen remodeling occurs. Results generally last 12–18 months, after which maintenance sessions may be recommended once every 6–8 months.

Success rates:
Clinical studies and patient experience show that most individuals see noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone, and elasticity. Around 70–80% of patients report visible reduction in fine lines and improved overall skin quality after a series of treatments.

Risks and benefits:
Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising may occur which typically resolves within a few days.

PRP Scalp Restoration

PRP Hair Restoration uses the same regenerative principles to stimulate hair follicles. Growth factors delivered directly to the scalp improve blood flow and encourage thicker, healthier hair growth.

Best candidates:
Men and women with early to moderate pattern hair thinning often see the best results. PRP works best when follicles are still active — it does not restore hair in completely bald areas, but helps to thicken the remaining follicles to provide improved coverage.

Treatment plan:
A series of three treatments spaced approximately one month apart is recommended, with maintenance treatments every 6–12 months depending on response.

Success rates:
Clinical studies show that many patients experience increased hair density and thickness, particularly when treatment begins early.

Risks:
Temporary scalp tenderness or mild swelling may occur. Since the treatment uses your own blood, complications are very rare.

Why Choose a Medical Practice for Aesthetic PRP?

PRP is a medical procedure grounded in regenerative science. Having treatments performed in a physician-led practice ensures proper patient selection, sterile technique, and evidence-based protocols.
